Mayrhofen | St Anton, Kitzbuhel & Mayrhofen | Why are these 3 Austrian resorts so child friendly

With this winter season now wrapped up, thoughts are turning to where to book for your family ski holiday in winter 17/18. Here are just some of the reason to book at one of the resorts we run in...

This week.....

Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen has something for everyone, and plenty to do with children whether that’s with parents or one of our Alpine Angels nannies! Like St Anton it was given 5/5 as a family resort by skiresort.info and is considered one the world's best family ski resorts by SNO, showing that it caters well for families in every way, from skiing to off slope activities. First off, lets look at skiing as the chances are that is what you and your family will be in Mayrhofen for, be it as beginners or as well seasoned skiers! There are several areas for children throughout the resort, whether they are complete beginners or have experience, including the children’s area at the mountain station of the Penken lift, ran by The Ski School Mayrhofen. If you decide go here it’s also a great chance to check out the fantastic views from the top, one not to be missed! There’s also nearby restaurants for the family to warm up with a hot chocolate or gluhwein afterwards.

Other places to check out include Bobo’s children’s area which is ran by the Skischule Fankhauser and offers magic carpets as well as child friendly slopes, an area that is sure to keep your little ones entertained. Kinderland Horberg has moved from its previous location and been relocated to the ‘Sporerleite’, by the base terminal of the Horbergbahn cable car. Big improvements were made and it is now an ideal area for children of all levels, with fun to be had sledging and with plenty of other activities, as well as skiing! It is open 9am until 4pm each day with evening opening until 7pm on Wednesdays and Fridays. Day tickets are just €2! There are several other children’s areas throughout Mayrhofen too, take a look at http://www.mayrhofner-bergbahnen.com/en.

If you want to stay outdoors but need an alternative to skiing, why not consider tobogganing? The kids will love it and its lots of fun for adults too. It’s the perfect excuse to rekindle some childhood memories! Take a look at the runs at Gasthof Wiesenhof, Rastkogelhutte or Bringlingalm. They all require some walking for the ascent, but it is worth it. If you prefer a run that doesn’t require walking to get to the top then go to Gerlosstein, a 7km floodlit toboggan run in the little village of Hainzenberg. You can take the Gerlosstein lift to the top and there are inns on the way down if the family want to stop for a drink. There are several shops in the town that toboggans can be rented from. As an alternative to tobogganing why not try snow tubing?! Just like tobogganing it’s fun for all the family! This is also by the Gerlosstein lift, open 09:00 – 16:00 and its free of charge to use the tubing track.

For a little relaxation, head to the ‘White Lounge’ for the complete igloo experience. It’s the perfect place for an afternoon drink and catch up. The children will love looking at the ice sculptures and will be excited about seeing a real igloo! You can sit in the deck chairs on the sun terrace and enjoy the views. If you fancy escaping the children and taking the chance to spend the night in an igloo with your other half why not book an Alpine Angels nanny overnight and seize the once in a lifetime opportunity?!

For indoor activities have a look at the play arena in Tux, less than a 20 minute drive out of Mayrhofen Centre. It offers so many activities such as a cinema, climbing wall, bouncy castle, high rope course and more! You will not be short on entertainment for the day! For current opening times and prices check out the website listed below.

All of these activities are great for families to do together but our Alpine Angels nannies can also do them with your children if you fancy some well deserved time off!
